After a bit of pootling about with some quests I continued on with the plot. These Colony 9 soldiers are a bit cowardly, getting me to kill all their monsters for them. I despatched a few nasty spiders and found some dead traders. Then Reyn gets a bit too close to some Alien® egg sacks and I have to go and save him.
So quickly learn about seeing the future with the Monado before taking on the Arachno Queen. It took me a few attempts to realise I had to save my Monado powers in order to use Shield when necessary. Running around trying to find Reyn to revive him was tricky with the stuck-to-the-floor camera angle but ultimately unnecessary once I performed better at defence. An enjoyable boss encounter anyway.
Lastly, I spent some time upgrading my party's arts. I think I could have done that earlier but I wasn't paying attention.
Off to the Bionis' Knee... (I guess eventually we'll reach the Bionis' Armpit)
Level: 13
Party: Shulk, Reyn (briefly just Shulk)
Duration: 6h ?m
Location: Spider nest thingy (what was that called?)
I feel you should be able to move the camera about a bit during combat - you can circle the camera and lift it to see who's on the floor by finding their depleted energy bar (it looks like part of a redacted document). You can also order everyone around and change your own target.
ReplyDeleteI upgraded everyone's arts until they reached IV, then I got stuck. You'll do far better, I'm sure.
One useful thing I learned from some the in-game tutorial pages (with well-drawn stills of the main characters) was that Shulk's auto-attack fills the Monado power gauge. For a long time I couldn't work out why the Monado couldn't be used.
Also, the Monade gauge remains at the same level at the end of combat as when you start the next one. It's a good idea to keep the Monado charged when the enemy is nearly finished and use arts (or other team members) to finish them off.
Reviving team members is a gamble. Two friends fallen, two blue bars, you need them back up to finish the fight but as soon as you use the blue bars no-one if going to revive you. The number of times my battles ended after reviving a team member is more than 10.
One Colony 9 soldier says, "there's a large bird creature on the concrete pillar below us...but I can't leave my post. Could you sort it out for me?"
The Bionis' armpit is not your destiny.
The camera is fiddly to move during combat.
DeleteArts beyond level IV require a bigger book. I'm not sure what that represents.
The Monado is Shulk's talent art. At least one of his arts fills the talent gauge, which I realised yesterday means restoring your talent art.
Once you're having to revive party members you're probably doing badly enough that you're going to lose anyway.
Not true. While fighting a level 75 enemy my team members were constantly being knocked out and I revived them diligently.
ReplyDeleteYou need to buy a bigger Arts book to get from level 4 to level 7, then find an even bigger one to reach levels 8, 9 and 10.
Auto-attacks fill the Monado gauge, Enchant uses half the gauge, Bust-a-move (TM) uses all of it.
The talent arts fill the talent gauge. All three members of your team have their own talent art, and each is beautifully represented in a well-drawn still.
I think you're mixing up some stuff. Auto-attacks fill the talent gauge, which needs to be full to use talent arts. Hits with some other arts also fill the talent gauge. Shulk's talent art is using the Monado. Using a talent art empties the talent gauge (or possibly half-empties, I hadn't noticed that).
