Sword Valley

After my stinging defeat by Mumkhar I went back to gain some experience. I did a few quests in the earlier areas but there just weren't enough experience points available. Some more exploring and questing in Eryth Sea and Valak Mountain gained me the levels I needed. I'd managed to avoid visiting a lot of locations it seems. At level 47 I was able to defeat Mumkhar easily.

Onward to Sword Valley where Dickson turned up and sold me some rather weak anti-mechon weapons. I have so far spurned them in favour of Enchant.

It's good to be back fighting Mechon again. However, they do seem to be somewhat disinterested that I'm wandering about waving the Monado at them.

  1. That'll be uninterested, then.

I spent an absolute fortune on the mechon-piercing weaponry before I found it was next to useless. Can't believe Dickson-san didn't come through for us with the goods.

There are plenty of massive mechon to battle, and just when you best them, an even tougher, black-hole spitting mechon will take its place.

Take the time to explore this area fully, because I never worked out how to get into the restricted areas in my extensive exploration of Sword Valley.

    1. dis·in·ter·est·ed   [dis-in-tuh-res-tid, -tri-stid] Show
      adjective
      1. unbiased by personal interest or advantage; not influenced by selfish motives: a disinterested decision by the referee.
      2. not interested; indifferent.

      Usage note
Disinterested and uninterested share a confused and confusing history. Disinterested was originally used to mean “not interested, indifferent”; uninterested in its earliest use meant “impartial.” By various developmental twists, disinterested is now used in both senses. Uninterested is used mainly in the sense “not interested, indifferent.” It is occasionally used to mean “not having a personal or property interest.”
Many object to the use of disinterested to mean “not interested, indifferent.” They insist that disinterested can mean only “impartial”: A disinterested observer is the best judge of behavior. However, both senses are well established in all varieties of English, and the sense intended is almost always clear from the context.

    2. I've now completed a couple of surprise quests and found the 'Monado Wound' secret area. Not sure if there are other restricted areas you're referring to. Mumkhar is still the bane of my existence.

    3. Touché

I was drilled into me at teacher training college - our knee-jerk reaction to opposite of interested was disinterested. But the 30 seconds that followed meant it wasn't going to be ever again.

There are sometimes gates that you can see through but not get to the other side.

Congratulations on finding another secret area. There are so many to find: some, like monado wound offer little as a reward, but others offer excellent views and giftshops.

Surprise quests are the best: defeat this tough thing we've wheeled out!

How exactly is Mumkhar still bothering you?!
